India is urbanising fast. By 2036, around 600 million people, about 40% of the population, are expected to live in cities, which already contribute a significant share of the country’s economic output. At the same time, cities face rising heat, flooding, water stress, congestion and infrastructure gaps, making better planning more urgent than ever.

The National Economic Forum (NEF) invites Master’s students, early-career researchers and policy-oriented experts to submit a research article for its October Newsletter on the theme:

“Building Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Cities: Rethinking Urban Planning for the Future”

Suggested sub-themes (not limited to these)

  • Sustainable urban planning and habitat
  • Climate resilience and adaptation
  • Circular economy and waste management
  • Sustainable urban mobility
  • Smart and green infrastructure
  • Inclusive and liveable cities

Submission guidelines

  • Length: 1,000–1,500 words
  • Referencing: APA style
  • Deadline: 25 October 2026
  • Articles should show rigorous methodology, use recent datasets and present clear economic reasoning. Interdisciplinary approaches combining economics, energy policy and international relations are welcome.

Why submit? Selected articles will be published in the October Newsletter, released in online and printed formats. The printed edition is distributed to economic departments of central and state governments, policy institutions, industry and trade bodies, and senior officials, giving your work strong visibility among policymakers, academics and industry leaders.
