The Ministry of Defence released the 6th Positive Indigenisation List covering 405 strategically important defence items. Imports of these items will be phased out in a time-bound manner so that they are sourced only from domestic manufacturers, giving a boost to Defence Public Sector Undertakings, MSMEs and private defence firms under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.

- Madras High Court Declares the Tamirabharani River a ‘Legal Person’ [Polity / Environment]
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court declared the Tamirabharani (Porunai) river a legal person, invoking the parens patriae jurisdiction of the court to protect it from industrial pollution and river-bed degradation. The ruling adds to India’s growing ‘Rights of Nature’ jurisprudence.

- Supreme Court: 1978 ‘Industry’ Test Will Not Apply Under the Industrial Relations Code, 2020 [Polity / Labour Law]
A nine-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant held that the expansive interpretation of ‘industry’ laid down in Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board v. A. Rajappa (1978) will not govern the definition of ‘industry’ under the new Industrial Relations Code, 2020. The ruling brings clarity to which establishments fall within the code’s dispute-resolution framework.

- IN-SPACe Approves India’s First Fully Commercial Earth Observation Constellation [Science & Technology / Space]
IN-SPACe approved India’s first indigenous, fully commercial Earth Observation constellation under a public–private partnership with the Allied Orbits consortium, led by PixxelSpace with Dhruva Space, PierSight Space and SatSure Analytics. The 12-satellite constellation, carrying panchromatic, multispectral, hyperspectral and SAR payloads, involves investment of over Rs 1,200 crore and is to be operational by 2029.

- Cochin Shipyard Delivers ‘Mangrol’, Third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft [Defence]
On August 21, 2026, Cochin Shipyard Limited delivered Mangrol, the third of eight indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW-SWCs), to the Indian Navy. Designed for coastal anti-submarine operations and underwater surveillance, the vessel has nearly 80% indigenous content and is equipped with lightweight torpedoes and advanced sonars.

- MoEFCC Issues National Guidelines for Grasslands and Open Natural Ecosystems [Environment]
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued national guidelines for the sustainable management of grasslands and Open Natural Ecosystems (ONEs). The guidelines focus on protecting non-forest ecosystems that support pastoral livelihoods, biodiversity and carbon storage, and on correcting their frequent misclassification as ‘wastelands’ in land records.

- Ministry of Education Orders Structural Revamp of the National Testing Agency [Education / Governance]
The Ministry of Education ordered structural reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA), including the replacement of more than 600 subject experts, a four-tier question-paper auditing mechanism and a larger role for the CISF in securing examination centres. The measures aim to restore integrity and public trust in national entrance examinations.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India launched two digital platforms — SEBI Incident Reporting and Cyber Suraksha — to strengthen cybersecurity compliance and cyber-threat information sharing among market intermediaries, stock exchanges and market infrastructure institutions.
